Rosario Isasi, J.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor of Human Genetics at the Dr. J. T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Law at UM School of Law. She directs the Program in Genome Ethics and Policy at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics.
Her research is devoted to identifying and analyzing the social, ethical and policy dimensions of disruptive technologies (e.g., precision, genomics, and regenerative medicine). She has built an international reputation as a scholar with unique expertise in international comparative law, ethics, and health disparities. As a recognition of her scholarly contributions, from 2017-2019 she was appointed as President’s International Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and continues serving as an advisor.
Prof. Isasi holds many leadership roles in major national and international initiatives, she co-chairs the Ethics Committee of the International Society for Stem Cell Research and serves as the Ethics Advisor of the European Commission’s European Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Registry. Prof. Isasi is a member of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Legal, Ethical, Environmental, Dual-use, and Responsible Innovation Panel and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s (CIHR) Stem Cell Oversight Committee. She also serves as the co-Chair of the Committee on Access, Privacy and Security at the NIH’s All of Us Research Program. Finally, Prof. Isasi serves as a member of several advisory panels focusing on diversity and inclusion, such as the Advisory Board of the American Society of Human Genetics’ (ASHG) Human Genetics Scholars Initiative, the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Task Force and as a co-Chair of ASHG’s Professional Practice & Social Implications Committee.
