Angela (Angie) Knackstedt, BSN, RN, NPD-BC is the Program Manager for Health Literacy & Nursing Bioethics at Children's Mercy Kansas City. Her nursing career has focused on nursing professional staff development, bioethics, health literacy, pediatric oncology, injury prevention and advocacy. She is a core faculty member of the Children’s Mercy Bioethics Center, Director of the Certificate in Pediatric Bioethics Program and a member of the hospital Ethics Committee. She serves as co-chair of the Children’s Mercy Nursing Ethics Forum (NEF) which is the voice of nursing in ethics throughout the organization, and is a unique forum created in 1988 to provide resources and support for nursing staff at Children's Mercy in dealing with ethical issues related to nursing and healthcare. Angela is active in nursing ethics nationally, presenting nationally and internationally. She has been a member of the National Nursing Ethics Conference for many years and is co-leading the efforts for the conference since 2023. She has completed a three-year term as President for the Nursing Affinity Group for the American Society of Humanities and Bioethics. She is also part of the Office of Equity and Diversity where manages Children’s Mercy health literacy efforts and collaborates to provide DEI education, projects, and activities to improve justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
