University of Texas Medical Branch
Kemah, Texas
My name is Tiffany Bystra MS, OTR/L, CHSE and I am an occupational therapist with the University of Texas Medical Branch hospital system. I am also a OT content developer for the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and a current Ph.D. student in Bioethics and Health Humanities at UTMB. To add more complexity to my life, I'm in the final terms of completing my Master of Science in Social Work degree with the University of Louisville with a psychosocial oncology concentration. My current research interest areas of are in cancer and cancer care related ethical issues, clinician experiences of moral distress, health humanities broadly speaking (but mostly entailing narrative medicine, medical histories, and ethnography), end of life concerns, and infrastructure of care. As a prior faculty instructor in OT, my career aspirations are to remain in academia integrating bioethics and health humanities into the teachings of clinical students, as well as become more involved in advocacy opportunities to inform more just and responsive systems of cancer care.
