Cristie Horsburgh, JD (she/her) is a Staff Ethicist in the Center for Bioethics at Cleveland Clinic. In her role, she serves as the Co-Director for the Cleveland Fellowship in Advanced Bioethics, Associate Director of the Nursing Ethics Program, and Associate Director of the Clinical Ethics Immersion Program. She also directs clinical ethics services at four community hospitals within the Cleveland Clinica system. Over the past two years, Ms. Horsburgh has been part of a national working group pursuing the creation of an accredition process for clinical ethics training programs. She most recently served on the Steering Committee charged with developing the Council On Program Accreditation for Clinical Ethicist Training (COPACET) and was appointed to COPACET's inagural board with her term to begin in January 2025. In addition to developing clinical ethics program training benchmarks and standards, Ms. Horsburgh also aims to address ethics needs at the local and system-level. Currently, her clinical work focuses on (1) innovating structures through which healthcare professionals and community members engage with and contribute to clinical ethics work and (2) developing responses to moral distress experienced by healthcare professionals, such as Moral Distress Reflective Debriefs.
