Stowe Locke Teti, MA, HEC-C is a senior clinical ethicist at Inova Health System, where he performs over 500 ethics consults annually and leads the clinical ethics consult service at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. He teaches ethics for faculty and staff and is an Instructor of Medicine at the University of Virginia and Georgetown University Medical Schools. Prior to working at Inova, Stowe was a member of the core teaching faculty at the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics and lecturer in the department of Global Health and Social Medicine at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he was director of the bioethics writing program, executive editor of the Harvard Bioethics Journal, and co-leader in the Capstone Program. Stowe began working in clinical ethics at Children's National Medical Center, where he became and continues to be the longtime editor-in-chief of Pediatric Ethicscope, the Journal of Pediatric Bioethics. His principal research interests include identifying the nature and practice of shared decision-making and decisional authority in critical care medicine as plural subject phenomena, expanding the use of empirical data in clinical ethics consultation, and studying the effects of the built environment as a parameter of health and wellbeing. Stowe was co-founder of the Washington D.C. Clinical Ethics Consortium, the Clinical Ethics Consultation Benchmarking Collaborative, and actively seeks partnerships to improve the knowledge and practice of clinical ethics. He is an active author and speaker, most recently focused on developing and validating key performance indicators and outcomes measures in clinical ethics.
