Location: New York/Illinois Central (Second Floor)
Abstract: In 2021, amidst continued attempts to address health equities and contend with a history of structural and systemic racism within their organizations, teams at the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Centers for Disease Control created the publication, "Advancing Health Equity: A Guide to Language, Narrative and Concepts." Upon release, it was met with mixed response, from Twitter-storms of accusation of "wokeness," to tacit acceptance as concepts already achieved, to complete ignorance.
We will demonstrate examples of how this document and the resources it contains can be shared in formal and informal academic settings with effectiveness, humility and grace. Participants will be encouraged to consider the use of this foundational toolkit in their own areas of influence in valuable and transformative ways.
